The short answer
Ask whether the worker has a tip code you can scan; it takes a minute and needs only your phone. If not, ask whether a tip can go on your card or your hotel bill. Only send money through a payment app if the worker gives you their own handle.
Ways to tip without cash
| Option | Works when | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Scan a tip code | The worker has a code on a badge or stand | Check the name on the page matches the person |
| Add it to your card | The business adds tips to card payments | Ask whether it reaches the person who helped you |
| Add it to your hotel bill | You're staying at the hotel | Ask the front desk; it varies by hotel |
| A payment app | The worker gives you their own handle | Double-check the name before you send |
| Come back later | You'll pass by again | Easy to forget, and they may be off shift |

Quickest first. Policies vary, so ask when you're not sure.
Tip codes
More workers now carry a QR code on a badge, a lanyard or a stand. You point your phone's camera at it, a tip page opens, and you pay like you would at any checkout.
Before you pay, check that the name and photo on the page match the person in front of you. A real tip page shows who you're tipping.
Your card or your hotel bill
Some businesses add tips to a card payment, and some hotels let you add a tip to your bill. Policies vary, so ask, and ask whether the tip reaches the person who helped you.
Payment apps
If a worker gives you their own handle, a payment app works. Type it carefully and check the name before you send, because a payment to the wrong person is hard to get back.
How tipping works with ENVO
With ENVO, each worker has their own code. You scan it, see their name and photo, pick an amount and pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card. There's no app to download and no account to make.
The worker receives 100% of the tip. You pay a small service fee, shown in dollars before you pay. Tips start at $5; caddie tips start at $20.
Questions
Can I tip with Apple Pay?
Yes, if the worker has a tip code. With ENVO, you scan the code and pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card.
Does the worker get the whole tip?
With ENVO, yes. The worker receives 100% of the tip; the service fee is separate and shown in dollars before you pay.
Do I need an app or an account?
Not with ENVO. Scanning the code opens the tip page in your browser.
What if the worker doesn't have a code?
Ask whether a tip can go on your card or your hotel bill, or come back with cash later.
